A PUB barman who launched a violent attack after a row at a Stourport service station has pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Aaron Weavers claimed he only chased victim Richard Kilgour because he lost three teeth from a punch by another man.

Mr Kilgour needed 10 stitches in a forehead wound.

Weavers, 21, of Bullus Road, Stourport, denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm during a trial at Worcester Crown Court in March.

The jury failed to agree and he returned to court for a retrial.

But after legal submissions, the prosecution accepted a guilty plea to the lesser charge of assault.

Judge David McEvoy remanded Weavers on bail for a pre-sentence report.

The court was told Mr Kilgour and his girlfriend went to the Esso service station in Vale Road at 2am.

Weavers got involved in a row with one of Mr Kilgour's friends.

Then, as Mr Kilgour walked home, a car pulled up and he was chased and battered in the ribs and head with a baseball bat.

Weavers said he was punched in the mouth during a forecourt fracas between a group of men.

Asked by his barrister Geoffrey Clough why he made "a total admission", he said it helped his reputation as someone who could look after himself.
