BOSS Rod Brown has revealed he plans to build on his Stourport Swifts squad regardless of the result of Thursday's biggest game in their history.

Swifts must win by a two-goal margin at Bloxwich to overtake Rushall for the Midland Alliance championship and a place in the Dr Martens League Western Division.

The former Kidderminster and District League club's destiny is still in their own hands after Monday night's 1-1 draw at home to Oadby in front of more than 260.

Confidence is high for the visit to Bloxwich after they dominated the home clash several weeks ago, though the 2-1 win recorded then will not be enough tonight.

Swifts have scored 106 league goals, including 39 from hot-shot Lee Booth, to at least guarantee second spot after Barwell lost 3-0 at Wednesfield on Tuesday.

Brown admitted: "This game is pivotal. We need to approach it in the right way - we can't get carried away and we must stay patient."

And his midfielder Simon Marsh, who started playing for Swifts as a teenager, declared: "If somebody had said at the start of the season that we'd need to go to Bloxwich and win by two goals, I would have snatched their hand off.

"I really think we'll do it. I've played here since I was 18 or 19 and you couldn't wish for nicer people behind the scenes. I'd love to see their faces if we can get the right result."

For Brown, he has one eye on planning for next season, wherever Swifts may end up.

He revealed: "I've already pencilled in four or five players I hope to bring to the club - and I want them regardless of whether we go up.

"If we did go up, I think we could hold our own, certainly in terms of a mid-table position. It's been a great season, what with us reaching the last 16 of the Vase as well."

Brown, who hopes for good support at Bloxwich, continued: "We only beat Bloxwich 2-1 in our last game but in all fairness they were camped in their own half. It won't be any different.

"I don't think winning the game is a problem but it's getting the goals we need. I want to win by three or four and take the pressure off us. If we don't win it, we will only have ourselves to blame.

"Gary (Whild) and I have worked very hard over the last five years. We have good players but importantly they work hard which you need, especially at this level."

Marsh added: "When we beat Bloxwich 2-1, it should have been more like 10. We missed so many chances.

"We have got to be patient, even if it means scoring two goals in the last 10 minutes."

Chairman Chris Reynolds said: "It's been a tremendous season and it would just be nice to crown it by getting promotion."

Kick-off at Bloxwich is 7.45pm at Abbey Park in Glastonbury Crescent.
