The owner of a BMW car abandoned on the Kidderminster ringway after a crash told the police it had been stolen.
He had not been driving it, said Michael Waldron.
Later he withdrew the story and admitted that he had been at the wheel, magistrates heard.
Waldron, 45, of Upton Road, Kidderminster, was fined £250 and £150 costs, when he admitted obstructing the police by giving false information.
