A MAN jailed for dangerous driving and theft has had his sentence cut by a third on appeal.

Peter Evans was sentenced to nine months by Kidderminster magistrates but this was reduced to six months when he appealed at Worcester crown Court.

He was also ordered to pay £520 compensation to Sharon Jordan who had had her handbag containing £500 snatched at a garden centre.

The theft led to her husband Julian Jordan setting off on a car chase.

He caught up with Evans's car a number of times and at one stage grabbed him through the driver's window.

But Mr Jordan, from Woodbury Road, was thrown to the ground as Evans escaped in Lakes Road, Bewdley.

Evans and passenger Stephen Ferguson were involved in a crash in Bewdley town centre before finally getting away.

But amazingly, Evans walked into a police station the same night and complained that Mr Jordan had tried to ram him three times. He was arrested.

Barrister David Iles said the jail sentence on Evans, 35, of Henwood Close, Wolverhampton, was "too harsh".

Recorder John Price told the defendant he had shown "breath-taking arrogance" by making a complaint to police.

But he cut the sentence to six months because of his guilty plea and ordered him to pay compensation to Mrs Jordan.
