A WORCESTER man frightened a house full of people after he waved a knife in front of a man he believed had been "trying it on" with his girlfriend.

Droitwich magistrates heard how Andrew Hall received a call from his girlfriend shortly after 11pm on Thursday, March 29.

"She said Nicholas Eames had been trying it on with her," said Susan Cliff, prosecuting.

"He cycled over to St John's and confronted both of them. He grabbed a knife and then began waving it at Mr Eames.

"Mr Eames shut himself in the kitchen and the defendant kicked the door. Another couple in the house heard the noise.

"They said they were really scared and thought he was going to kill everyone. Mr Eames made an escape and called the police."

The 33-year-old was found sitting on a wall in Comer Gardens, she told magistrates. He had dropped the knife, which was 12in long with a 6in blade, in a front garden.

Hall, of London Road, previously admitted being in possession of an offensive weapon and a charge of affray.

Dale Sheehan, defending, said Hall recognised he had an anger management problem.

"He's trying to sort himself out now. The probation service report suggests that a rehabilitation order would help Mr Hall," he added.

"It could address his anger management needs on a one-to-one basis.

"Unfortunately when he made the journey on his bike over to St John's he became very angry.

"He apologises to the court for his behaviour. The reason he faces the possession in a public place charge is because he took the knife outside the house."

Hall was given a 12-month rehabilitation order to cover the two offences. He was ordered to pay £40 compensation and £118 costs.

Magistrates also ordered for the forfeiture and destruction of the knife.
