ALMOST three years ago, my mother collapsed and died on a train to Nottingham after having to change trains unexpectedly at New Street, Birmingham.
My sister had taken her to the station at Worcester where she lifted mum's case on to the train and her friend would meet her at Nottingham and carry her case for her. It was supposed to be a through train and mum had made this journey before without incident.
I was at New Street Station, myself last week and could well imagine mum trying to manage her case and trying to find another platform, surrounded by people dashing about an no one to help her.
Could I please beg your readers that if they are travelling by rail and see someone struggling with their luggage that they could spare a moment to ask if they need help. My mum would certainly have gratefully accepted such an offer.
M JOHNSON, Worcester.
