STOURPORT Swifts stand on the brink of promotion glory with the club just two wins away from a place in the Dr Martens Western Division.

The club is locked in a three-way fight for the Midland Alliance title with rivals Rushall Olympic and Barwell.

Tonight third placed Barwell entertain leaders, Rushall, in a top-of-the-table battle which could have a crucial bearing on Swifts' fortunes.

Stourport lie sandwiched in second place, level on points with Rushall but behind on goal difference.

Chairman Chris Reynolds believes the championship is within reach but admits promotion is what counts.

"It is in our hands and if we win our two games then whatever happens, as long as we win them with a good goal average, then we will win the league though promotion is the main thing," he said.

"A draw would suit us or even Barwell winning, but I think it will be a tight game which I wouldn't like to forecast although I think Rushall might be too strong."

After a poor start to the season Swifts have been on a tremendous run, losing only once in the league since October, which Reynolds puts down to team work on and off the pitch.

"The one thing that has made a difference is team work not only from the manager Rod Brown and the team but the whole club which has had a feeling of pulling together.

"This has been reflected in games which we have looked like losing but managed to turn round. Two years we wouldn't do this.

"Lee Booth is on a goal streak this year which is tremendous on his part but it is difficult to single anyone out.

"There is a buzz around the place but there are still a few twists and turns to go although I have a feeling that we will probably do it.

"But football has a funny way of turning round and kicking you in the teeth so we have to concentrate."

Swifts tackle mid-table Bloxwich Town away on Thursday, who they narrowly beat 2-1 at home last Tuesday.

Brendan Hackett (knee) is doubtful while Mark Dearlove (knee) is also likely to miss out.

Swifts' final match is at home to Oadby Town next Monday (May 21).
