WORCESTER Rugby Club captain Alistair Murdoch said he was disappointed that coach Adrian Skeggs was leaving but would not be following him though the exit door.

Murdoch, who brought Skeggs to Bedford as his assistant coach last season, is keen to stay on at Worcester despite the release of his fellow Australian.

He said: "I've enjoyed my time at the club and feel, with a bit of fine tuning, that we can win promotion to the Premiership.

"It's disappointing for Adrian that the club have let him go, but that is Worcester. At any other club, the season we have had would have been viewed as a success."

Murdoch added: "I think it is fair to say he did not get the best out of certain players because they just did not perform for him in matches.

"I don't think it is all the coach's fault though because some of the players have to take the blame for missing out on the title."
