THE Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) has secured a contract worth nearly £800,000 to launch a centre of excellence in Scotland's "silicon glen".
The Scottish Embedded Software Centre, which was officially launched on Monday, May 14, at Livingston, near Edinburgh, will give high-tech firms access to DERA's know-how.
DERA has long experience with working on embedded software, which is used in military systems and increasingly in domestic devices such as washing machines and video recorders.
James Kirby, director of DERA's systems and software engineering centre, said: "The Scottish Embedded Software Centre will be a focus to consolidate best practice and share knowledge. The aim is to provide Scottish industry with access to DERA's expertise, which will provide a major boost to productivity in high-technology firms."
