Salford Rovers U-12 2, Malvern Wanderers 1

ROVERS, playing in their first ever final, were celebrating at the final whistle after goals from Matt Layton and Tom Barber earned them victory.

The Ron Handy Memorial Trophy final, one of a handful of Mercian Elgar Junior League finals played at Malvern Town FC on Sunday, saw Salford score tow first half goals to give them a firm grip on the silverware.

However, they couldn't find a third and Malvern hit back to set up a frantic final few minutes but defiant Rovers held out to win.

Norton Rangers 2,

Welland Juniors 0

THERE was double delight for Norton on Sunday when they won the Mercian Elgar League's Trophy World Cup final and then heard news of Newtown's demise in the league.

Ashley Knight gave Rangers an early boost with a goal from Joe Mulrenan's corner and Oliver Worthington came closest to doubling the lead at Malvern Town's ground when his second half shot struck the crossbar.

The move of the match minutes later, though, ended with Knight's volley finding the net t secure the silverware.

The two-goal hero was named player of the match by league officials.

Badsey Rangers U-11 1,

Charlton Rovers Blues 2

RANGERS featured in a C & G Cheltenham Youth League cup final for the second successive year when they took to the field at Whaddon Road.

However, despite a brave performance against the champions, who had lost just two competitive games in three years, Badsey ended up losers after a late rally failed to bring an equaliser.

Charlton took the lead from one of several early corners but only a nasty bobble prevented Jamie Clarke levelling before the break.

Clarke and Pete Heyes were then denied by the Blues keeper before Badsey fell 2-0 behind following a breakaway.

Clarke finally earned his reward of a goal but it was too little too late for gutsy Rangers.

Littleton U-13 0, Peopleton 11

DESPITE the excellent efforts of the Littleton goalkeeper, Peopleton were able to register an emphatic midweek victory.

The visitors fired in six goals without reply before half time when they made numerous positional changes but the goals kept coming.

There were hat-tricks for Andy Lamb and Nick Andrews, Jack Bostock and Lea Miller both scored twice while Ross Sailes completed the rout.

A long-range lob that sailed inches over the crossbar with the keeper beaten was the nearest Littleton came to a consolation.

Two nights later, Peopleton inflicted a first defeat of the season on Newtown.

Sailes opened the scoring with a great strike from distance and it was 2-0 when Nick Henry volleyed home a second in the second half.

Lamb then hit the bar and Bostock twice saw efforts hacked off the line before Peopleton withstood some late pressure to take a prize scalp.

A third match in five days did little to dampen their enthusiasm as they rattled up double figures against Martley.

The goals came from Miller (3), Andrews, Bulford, Frankum and substitute Henry wrapped up an easy win with a hat-trick.
