A WORCESTER schoolgirl is getting ready to be examined on her drilling, after being accepted by a prestigious military college.
Kirsten Thompson, who is a year 11 pupil at The Alice Ottley School, The Tything, will be transferring to Welbeck College to continue with her A-level studies in September.
Sixteen-year-old Kirsten is one of only 30 girls to be accepted into the Nottinghamshire college.
"I'm very excited about going, it's amazing I got in," said Kirsten, who lives in Battenhall.
She has been a member of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at next-door Royal Grammar School, for the past year.
And for the last six months has had her hopes set on a place at Welbeck.
"It was really difficult to get in, I had to do an interview and spend two days being assessed," said Kirsten.
"It was a shock to be accepted, but it's brilliant."
Kirsten has to pass at least five GCSEs with set grades in certain subjects before studying for A-levels at Welbeck.
She will then be sponsored to go to university.
In the holidays she will go on expeditions and other military exercises.
After graduating she will spend a year at Sandhurst, the Officer Training College where she will be assigned to a regiment as a Lieutenant.
Kirsten would like to join the Royal Engineers, she will spend a minimum five years with the Armed Forces.
"Welbeck is going to be a brilliant experience, they do so much, such as ski-ing and climbing.
"There's also opportunities to go abroad."
