BROMSGROVE Rovers manager George Rooney has made another new signing -- and hopes to persuade two more of last year's players to stick with the club.

He has snapped up 18-year-old left-back Lee Millard from Sutton Coldfield Town, who has recently had trials with both Derby and Walsall.

Defender Steve Ulfig has agreed to rejoin the club after spending pre-season with Solihull and Ilkeston, while Rooney says he is "very optimistic" that goalkeeper Nore Gabbidon, who has also had trial spells with several other clubs, will commit himself to Rovers.

Rooney plans to look at several other trialists in an away friendly against Tamworth's reserves tonight, including midfielders Phil Lowe and Dean Joinson and right-back Mark Faulkner, while he is also tracking winger Jamie Wills, once on West Bromwich Albion's books.

But Rooney admits he would rather have had his line-up sorted out by now, with Saturday's Dr Martens Western Division opener with Rugby only four days away.

He said: "It is not ideal but I knew it was going to be like this. They are far from ready but we are in it and we have to get on with it."

"I have to try and very quickly weld them into a team."
