WORCESTER St John's rider Jon Dayus, currently racing in France for Nantes 44 Cyclisme, rounded off another excellent week with his second win of the year.

Having initiated the first break of the race he was joined by 20 other competitors in the Tour du Canton de Bussiores-Badil.

In the closing hilly stages, with 14 kilometres to the finish he stormed away on his own to win by 36 seconds from the second rider with the rest left trailing to finish in dribs and drabs.

Among those he left well behind were only five days after finishing second by three seconds in the Tour du Canton de Hautefort on May 1.

Here in England the latest round of the Mallory Park 50k Thursday evening circuit races saw a fine repeat win for Worcester rider Steve Dring.

He won in a sprint from a breakaway group of six riders which also contained Adrian Bird who finished fifth.

In the Abertillery & District Wheelers 25-mile time trial at Usk, John Callaghan recorded a personal best time of 57 minutes 53 seconds.

Team mate Nobby Clarke also rode to finish with 1.2.41 with the winner Martin Sage (Port Talbot Wheelers) achieving 51.51.

The Tuesday evening time trial was reduced from 20 to 10 miles because of roadworks.

The event produced an excellent performance from Gavin Poupart who won in a time of 22 minutes and 45 seconds.

He was followed by Jake Stow 24.41, Simon Ward 25.52, Simon Fulbrook 26.54, Steve Potter 27.17, Alan Bennett 27.47, Carl Burnell 27.51 and Kelvin Ashman 28.04.

First woman home was Sarah Emerson 26.56, followed by Ros Hope 29.12 and Gail Flana-ghan 30.54.

The veterans were led home by Pete Jansen in 25.52 with Martin Staines 26.11, David Walker 26.27, Les Bailey 26.56 and Malcolm Bullock 28.03.

The Monty Heron 20-mile Shield will be competed for at a later date because of the roadworks disruption.
