BLACKSMITH Paul Shepherd will be going back to school next week.

The new artist-in-residence at Worcester's Bishop Perowne CofE High School was invited there by teacher Frank Charlton.

He will be sharing his knowledge of the art with youngsters, having had his own interest kindled when he visited a craft show with his grandmother at the age of six.

"I saw a blacksmith at work and I said I wanted to do that," said the 31-year-old, who has been a blacksmith for the past 15 years and intends to share his knowledge with pupils of St Barnabas CofE Primary School as well as those attending Bishop Perowne.

His career so far has included commissions from the Royal Family for work on the front gates of Kensington Palace.

During the week, Mr Shepherd - who hails from Leominster - will make a piece of sculpture for the school and a candlestick for the best technology pupil of the year.
