NEW Road supporters will get their first sight of pace star Glenn McGrath when he makes his County Championship debut for Worcestershire against Glamorgan tomorrow.

"It will be good to get under way at home and hopefully play well enough for us to win," said the 30-year-old Australian.

He added: "I've played a few games at Worcester before and I've really liked it, and the fact that it's such a beautiful ground was one of the reasons why I wanted to come here."

Worcestershire have already met Glamorgan at New Road this season having beaten them by nine wickets in the Benson and Hedges Cup.

McGrath said: "The way the guys played against him in the one-day match should give a lot of confidence and hopefully they will continue that."

The world-class ace is also looking forward to getting on to the New Road wicket, saying: "They have always had a little bit in them. Hopefully we can prepare a wicket that's not a bad batting track to get our batsmen scoring plenty of runs and hopefully use me in the best way possible. If it's a green seaming wicket then anyone can come in and take wickets. That will be the theory behind it.

"I'm hoping I can help the young blokes. They were saying they had a little bit of trouble finishing off teams, so hopefully I can come in and do that."

Worcestershire, meanwhile, will again be without opening batsman Philip Weston who is to undergo an exploratory knee operation later today.

He has yet to make his first appearance of the season, as is all-rounder Gavin Haynes who had knee surgery before the start of the campaign. He is likely to be sidelined for three more weeks.

Opener Paul Pollard, who suffered a blow to his foot while batting in yesterday's Benson and Hedges Cup defeat against Warwickshire, is expected to be fit.
