RYAN Driver is set to be given the chance to fill Graeme Hick's boots tomorrow.

The 21-year-old batsman has been drafted into a 13-man squad for tomorrow's floodlit Norwich Union National League Division One clash with Sussex at Hove (4.10).

With Hick on England duty at Lord's for the first Test against Zimbabwe, coach Bill Athey is keen to give Driver, who is on a week off from his university studies, his chance to shine.

He said: "Ryan is in the squad and he is not going down for the sake of it. When the opportunity arises we want to give him a go."

However, Athey said they could bring in an extra bowler depending on the type of wicket at Hove.

Paceman Alamgir Sheriyar, who did not play in their last league match, the narrow victory over Yorkshire at Headingley, could return while spinner Matt Rawnsley is also in the squad.

Steve Rhodes will captain the side in Hick's absence. The squad will travel down today for a practice session under floodlights.

Former Sussex player Athey admits his side faces a tough test against the newly-promoted home side, whose Australian batsman Michael Bevan is in excellent form.

"He is a very talented player, it is as simple as that, and one of the best one-day batters in the world, but they have some very useful bowlers as well such as James Kirtley and Jason Lewry.

"We will have to play well to win and compete with them.

"It was a terrific win against Yorkshire. The boys played very well and if we play as well as that, more often than not we shall win, but it is difficult to maintain that type of performance."

The County will name the same squad for the County Championship Division Two clash between the two sides, which starts on Thursday.
