WORCESTERSHIRE are today expected to agree to release unsettled paceman Alamgir Sheriyar from his contract.

The 26-year-old wants to leave New Road and his request is being considered by the County's management committee.

Worcestershire secretary Mike Vockins said before today's meeting: "Clearly it is important that the club considers this matter with the best interest of both parties in mind."

Former Leicestershire campaigner Sheriyar said: "I just feel that I don't figure in the plans at Worcester any more, so I'll just have to see what happens next season.

"I've got some thoughts about where I'd like to bowl, but I can't say at the moment.

"Fingers crossed a change of scenery will help get my career back on track next summer.

"I've got two months playing in Karachi and then hopefully I'll sort out where I'll be playing next year if I'm released."

Sheriyar, who made his Worcestershire debut in 1996 and was capped by them the following year, has just completed a miserable campaign at New Road.

He has taken only 28 first-class wickets at a cost of 37.42 each with just one victim in three Norwich Union National League Division One appearances.

His below-par efforts are in stark contrast to last season when he finished as the country's leading first-class wicket-taker with 92 scalps.

During last winter Sheriyar was part of the England 'A' tour of Bangladesh and New Zealand.
