WORCESTERSHIRE'S Vikram Solanki sees the example set by England opener Marcus Trescothick as just the spur he needs as he seeks to take his unexpected chance to cement a place in international cricket this winter.

An untimely injury to Nick Knight saw 24-year-old Solanki called into England's 14-strong one-day squad take part in the ICC Knockout Trophy.

The parallels are obvious between the Worcestershire hopeful's progression into the England picture and that of Trescothick, who also won his call-up following an injury to Knight in the summer.

Trescothick, just a few months older than Solanki, made a sensational impact in the Triangular Tournament against the West Indies and Zimbabwe and went on to prove himself worthy of a Test match opening place too against Jimmy Adams' Caribbean tourists.

For Solanki, the last-minute call-up from England's 'A' tour squad is a second opportunity to make a name for himself after his experience on last winter's one-day campaign in South Africa and Zimbabwe as well as a place in the Triangular Tournament squad.

He has taken due note of the advances made by Trescothick and said: "You get these opportunities, and there is no doubt he has made the most of it.

"He has played very well ever since, and what he has done is a great example of what is possible for a young player coming into the side."

"I will just go about my business and see where I find myself," he said, referring to where he is likely to find a place in England's one-day plans.
