WORCESTERSHIRE'S Glenn McGrath had two huge celebrations two minutes apart when he captured his 300th Test wicket and completed a hat-trick in the first session of the second Test against the West Indies at the WACA in Perth.

The Australian paceman blasted out Windies vice-captain Sherwin Campbell for three, and Brian Lara and captain Jimmy Adams with the third, fourth and fifth balls of his fifth over as the tourists collapsed to 19-4.

They rallied to 65-5 at lunch, with Wavell Hinds leading the resistance with an unbeaten 43 and wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs not out on 14.

His opening partner, Brett Lee, had put the West Indies on the back foot with the early wicket of Daren Ganga for a duck. English umpire John Hampshire gave the opener lbw but the ball appeared to be going well down the legside.

McGrath, who began the day with 298 Test victims, did exactly what he had predicted -- claiming the wickets of Campbell and Lara.

Campbell fell to a first-slip catch by Ricky Ponting, while Lara edged to fourth slip, where a Stuart MacGill juggled the chance before holding on.

The applause had hardly subsided when McGrath dropped one short to skipper Adams, who popped up the ball to Justin Langer at short leg.

Players ran from all over the ground to congratulate the man who des-troyed the West Indies' batting with astonishing figures of 10-27 in the first Test in Brisbane a week earlier. McGrath becomes only the third Australian, after Shane Warne (366) and Dennis Lillee (355) to top 300 Test victims.

West Indies eventually recovered to 196 all out, thanks to 96 from Jacobs. McGrath finished with figures of 3-48 as Australia closed on 72-2.
