A WORCESTER teenager who launched an unprovoked attacked on two men after drinking 10 pints of beer has been jailed for four months.

Darren Parkinson punched victim Julien Dukes on the face without any warning, knocking him to the ground and while he was down, kicked him repeatedly on the head, city magistrates heard.

When Mr Dukes' friend Edward Wilson tried to intervene, he was punched three times on the side of the face causing him to bite through his lower lip.

Magistrates were told all three had been at a party at Worcester's Grandstand on September 16 last year when the incident took place.

Mr Dukes and Mr Wilson had left the party around 10.15pm and were standing outside with a group of friends when 18-year-old Parkinson approached them and without any warning attacked Mr Dukes.

"He punched him hard on the nose and he fell to the floor on his back and was kicked on the side of the face," said Sarah Slater, prosecuting.

"He tried to defend himself with his arms and was kicked three times in the head area. His friend Mr Wilson went over to see if he was all right and he felt a hard punch to the left side of his mouth."

Miss Slater said Mr Wilson was punched two more times, resulting in one of his teeth puncturing his bottom lip.

Parkinson, of Ullswater Close, Warndon, admitted two charges of assault by beating.

Defence solicitor Barry Newton said Parkinson, who had no record of violence, had drunk 10 pints of beer and had little recollection of what had happened.

"He's a person who doesn't usually drink but on this occasion he drank far more than he should have and behaved in this outrageous fashion. What happened afterwards is something he barely remembers," he said.

"He's remorseful and clearly recognises drinking to that quantity with these effects is something which must never happen again.

"He's resolved never to drink to that excess again."

Magistrates sentenced Parkinson to four months for the assault on Mr Dukes and three months for the assault on Mr Wilson, to run concurrently.
