KIDDERMINSTER Carolians slipped to a 10-0 defeat when they visited Telford in a Midlands Three West North match on Saturday.

They were penned in their own half for most of the game.

Telford desperately needed to win to fight off the relegation threat, and they put in a tremendous amount of work to gain the two valuable points.

The pitch was a quagmire, and never suited KCs style, but they nearly won on a far worse pitch at Shrewsbury in January.

KCs started very well and had one good run, but gradually the bigger Telford pack took control.

It was not a day for passing the ball about and Telford chose not to and it paid dividends.

They were just short with a penalty in the 20th minute and KCs hopes rose when Mat Smith went on a great run down the middle. It came to nothing.

With the amount of territorial advantage they were getting, it was inevitable that Telford would score, which is exactly what

Rupert Bennett, a former Kidderminster player, got his hands on the ball following play in the right hand corner. Gareth Evans made it 7-0 with a superb conversion from the touchline.

The second half was much the same as the first and KCs never looked as if they would break the deadlock.

Their work-rate was faultless, and they threw everything into defence, but Telford looked far stronger.

In the closing stages Telford wrapped things up with a penalty kicked by Evans.

Meanwhile, a weakened KCs second team put up a good show against a strong Telford 15.

The first half was scoreless.

Telford opened the second half scoring with an unconverted interception try. Andy Weber levelled the score for KCs.

Telford had plenty of possession, but good work by the KCs forwards led to a second try for Webber.

Telford came back and scored a converted try to win.

KCs third team collected a comfortable 29-17 over their Telford counterparts.
