AT the Worcestershire Golf Club 80 members took part in the recent Sunday Mixed Alliance.

Playing in teams of four, two ladies and two gentlemen with one score from each to count, the winners Jos Douglas-Pennant, Liz Poole, Joe Bunyan and Mel Stocker had an admirable score of 74 points where conditions were very wet off the fairways and there were six temporary greens.

Runners-up were Margaret Duncan, Helen Landau, Graham Hill and Graham Sinclair, 3rd Betty Hakes, Hazel Cartledge, Colin Shurmer and Geoff lamb, 4th Diane Meakin, Jill Mico, John Duncan and Terry Cox, 5th Janet Long, Jill Piner, Phil Burton and Garnet Scott.

Rain, freezing temperatures and fog have meant that the Ladies section have managed very little golf since Christmas, playing only three of their winter fun competitions. The latest casualty being the March medal when there were six temporary greens making this a non-counting competition. The winner of this was Janet Long playing one stroke below her handicap with a net 71 and runner-up was Jenny Bunyan with net 72.

There have been wins for the Ladies Mail on Sunday team in the first two rounds of this knock-out competition. First there was a home match in February against Kington with a win of 4-0 and last week an away match against Bransford where the WGC team won 3-1.

Considering the conditions these were excellent wins for the team of Diane Meakin, Betty Mitchell, Mary Horrobin, Anita Leaver and Sally Dare.
