6 I FULLY agree with A Knittel (You Say, March 9). The extensive transportation of live animals is indeed a nonsense.
However, one of the reasons behind the longer journeys is the closure of local slaughterhouses. Why? Because of European interference.
It is being suggested that when Blair's New Labour government takes us unwillingly into an extended Europe, there could be upwards of a ten-fold increase in animal movements and much longer journeys resulting in further extensive periods without food and water.
We should also take this into account with regard to Europe.
