I KNOW that Tory MP Peter Luff is opposed to regional government, but in calling for the West Midlands Constitutional Convention to be scrapped (by whom?) he reveals a desire to suppress open debate that I find both disturbing and significant.
If Mr Luff is so desperate to avoid any discussion of this issue, it's probably because once the arguments are set out rationally, without scaremongering, people might actually be persuaded in favour of greater democracy.
