EVESHAM Golf Club staged the traditional Drive In for incoming captain Gary Bristow last Saturday.

Choosing to take three drives off the third tee, the winning trio who correctly guessed where the drives would finish were Dave Portman, Dave Hartland and Geoff Day respectively.

The weekend also saw the start of the new competitive season with a foursomes competition for the Famous Grouse Trophy in conjunction with the Ward Bekker Qualifier, the top eight pairs qualifying for the matchplay knockout format.

The eventual winners were Jeremy Taylor and John Curtis with a net 73. They now go into the draw for a place in the national draw to play in the final at St Andrews in October.

Ward Bekker qualifiers: Bristow & Wood, B Haines & Campbell, R Smith & Morris, Miles & Dufty, Cox & Everett, P Day & T Smith and Pulfer & Portman.

The scratch team have progressed through to the semi-final of the County Winter Foursomes Match Play competition after beating highly fancied Moseley, Cleobury Mortimer and Kings Norton on the way to a home clash in the semis against near neighbours Droitwich.
