VILLAGE SOCIETY: Attendance was good for the AGM of the Local History Group of the Village Society at their February meeting at the village hall. Lady Hamilton spoke of the most successful event of the year, the 'Wellesbourne Past and Present' exhibition last October. It had been seen by many people from the area and had aroused great interest in local history. Jane Brace, group secretary, reported on all other activities of the past months and John Little, treasurer, presented the accounts which showed a healthy balance. The officers and committee members for the coming year were accepted. Cy Collard took over from John Littler as treasurer. Mr Frinston's talk on the subject of Wellesbourne and it's associated airfields attracted a record audience. It was a topic of much interest and brought back memories to local people. The talk was accompanied by colour slides of wartime activities at Wellesbourne and illustrated the considerable changes, which Wellesbourne and the airfield had undergone since those days. Although Mr Frinston had declared himself a reluctant speaker at the outset of his talk the comments, questions and the appreciation by the audience showed their depth of interest in his subject. The vote of thanks was given by John Brace. The next event of the Village Society will be the annual dinner on March 28. Tickets at £9.50 each can be obtained from committee members but numbers need to be strictly limited, so early application is necessary.
