THE public have given Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade the thumbs-up in a poll of 6,000 people.

None of those who took part had levelled a complaint against the brigade - one of only five of Britain's 32 brigades in the same position.

Three-quarters of the respondents were "fairly or very satisfied" with the fire brigade.

While nearly a quarter gave no opinion, only 0.4 per cent were dissatisfied.

As well as questioning people about their views on the brigade's performance, the survey quizzed them about fire safety.

The percentage of people who had an extinguisher, fire blanket or smoke detector in their home was above the national average.

Knowledge of fire safety in the home was similar to the national average, the fire brigade said.
