TRANSPORT Minister Lord Whitty dropped in on Wyre Piddle during his visit to the Vale of Evesham last Friday.

The minister stood on a narrow footway in the village with heavy goods vehicles passing in order to see for himself problems villagers have had to contend with over the years. The Wyre Piddle bypass was given the go-ahead in the recent Local Transport Plan settlement and work on the new road will start next year.

During his morning in the Vale, the Minister also visited Honeybourne to see a "walking bus" in action by children at Honeybourne First School.

He also travelled on an easyLink - one of the beneficiaries of the RuralBus Challenge Competition in 1999 - bus in Defford and chatted with passengers while viewing the Pershore to Worcester Cycle Route.
