Cirencester Town 1, Evesham United 2

A LAST gasp winner from Joe Licata lifted Evesham into second place in the table after Tuesday's 12th league win on the road.

It was no more than an energetic Evesham performance deserved but it looked set to be a frustrating night after Phil Mullen rang the changes.

With Steve Taylor injured and Paul West and Steve McCartan consigned to the bench, it was left to Licata and Andy Hodgetts to conjure up an equaliser after 62 minutes.

Six minutes earlier, Damien Beattie was adjudged to have upended Scott Griffin and Giles Harris converted the resulting penalty.

Hodgetts then raced to the byline and picked out Licata to nod in the equaliser on a night when numerous chances went begging.

Stuart Payne, Shaun Pratt and Phil Preedy were the main culprits although their best efforts were met with some superb saves.

Town keeper Kevin Sawyer managed to push aside Mark Wolsey's volley two minutes into stoppage time but Licata was on hand to jubilantly head in the winner much to the delight of another healthy travelling contingent.

Saturday's match at home to Shepshed is being sponsored by Simms and Woods Ltd, Wyre Piddle and the ball by Hills Nurseries, Wickhamford.

United are back on the road next Tuesday with a visit to Solihull Boro (7.30).
