A FATHER and son have been left distraught after the theft of their beloved motorbikes.

Gavin Smith, 39, and 11-year-old son Callum lost their Kawasaki 60 and Honda 250 off-road bikes worth a total of £1,500 when thieves raided the garage of their home in Hampstall Lane, Astley Burf. Gavin's wife Tracey said: "They use the bikes purely for their own leisure at the Grafton Manor course in Bromsgrove.

"They are down there most weekends so it has come as a huge disappointment to them.

"Callum began his off-road racing when he was only eight so he is particularly upset, especially as he was away at the weekend and came home to find his bike had gone."

Mrs Smith said the motorcycles were not insured as they were only used for off-road purposes, which means the family will not receive a penny in compensation.

She added: "We are very surprised by a theft like this in this area, and we are convinced whoever took the bikes knew what they were coming for.

"The thieves left the helmets and bodyguards behind which indicates they had a clear intention of what to take."

The Kawasaki bike is black and green and has purple motifs bearing the manufacturer's name. The Honda bike is orange and white.

Anyone with information about the thefts, which happened at about 1am on Saturday, should call Kidderminster Police on 01562 820888.
