Pershore II 9, Rugeley II 0

PERSHORE equalled their highest ever DTZ League win with this demolition of Rugeley to bring their recent poor run of results to an end.

This landslide featured another hat-trick from Chris Smith, a brace apiece for Steve Quantrell and Phil Taylor and a goal apiece for Vince Crowley and Chris Jones.

The architect of this change in fortune was Pete Moreby who, in a new found right wing back role, completed a formidable attacking force with Quantrell and Crowley that put the Rugeley defence under the cosh for most of the afternoon.

It took a while for Pershore's game plan to take effect as the sheer concentration of their men in the Rugeley half looked like getting in the way of creating clear-cut goalscoring chances.

However, by allowing Rugeley more room and hitting them on the counter attack the goals began to come and by half time a five-goal lead had been amassed.

The onslaught took a while to resume after the break as Rugeley made a spirited attempt at securing a consolation goal.

But, with the threat comfortably dealt with by comeback kid Rushin at sweeper and goalkeeper Wright, they stepped up the tempo in the last quarter when double figures looked in sight.
