AN investigation involving Bromsgrove police has led to the arrest of a man accused of 27-armed robberies throughout the Midlands and the north -- the alleged Flat-Cap Robber.

Alan Kirkby Lee, aged 56, from Northamptonshire, was arrested by Cheshire police in Northwich last week.

Among the offences he is charged with are two robberies at the Yorkshire Bank, in Bromsgrove, in 1997 and March last year.

Detective Constable Roger Powell, of Bromsgrove CID, said: "We have been liaising constantly with Cheshire police, who ran this investigation, and last week had the breakthrough identifying this man and arresting him.

"It was a very difficult investigation as the offender always wore a flat-type cap and looked like a standard grandfather figure."
