A PROJECT designed to help town residents make the most of their retirement is proving such a smash hit that extra sessions are being added before the first one has officially taken place.

Age Concern Bromsgrove and District, based in Windsor Street, has been inundated with inquires about its taster sessions for the age resource desk, which is being officially launched tomorrow.

The initiative aims to help the over 50s, and the sessions have been running on Thursday afternoons since February.

It is part of a growing national network and will enable people to plug into a computer and surf the worldwide web to find out up-to-the-minute information on everything from leisure and learning to work and volunteering.

Volunteers ready and able to offer basic tuition, information and guidance will staff the desk.

Sessions have so far been booked up to four weeks in advance and with more than 30 people wanting a taster, Bromsgrove-based Age Concern has double-booked most sessions.

Chief officer Sheelagh Keen said: "We have also had to introduce another day so that people wishing to book further sessions do not have to wait too long.

"Everyone so far has wanted to book a further session."

The service is free.

Sheelagh added: "People have an average 9,000 hours of leisure time when they retire and for some people that can be a bit daunting.

"The Age Resource Desk will help Bromsgrove residents make the most of their retirement."
