TWO gardens set to open their gates to the public have been forced to abandon their plans because of the foot and mouth crisis.

The Cottage, in Broughton Green, and Red House Farm, in Bradley Green, near Hanbury, set to open under the National Gardens Scheme on March 21 and 22 respectively, will not now be open to visitors.

SAMARITANS in the county are on standby to lend a sympathetic ear to the farming community devastated by the current outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

Worcester Samaritans can be contacted 24-hours a day on 01905 21121.

A FUN-RUN to raise cash for Bromsgrove's branch of Leukaemia Research has been halted in its tracks following the foot and mouth epidemic.

Set for May 13, the trek has been postponed until June 10.

Branch chairman Nicole Harris said: "The entry forms have not been printed yet but we wanted to inform people who were looking forward to the run."
