March was members' night so the committee had the chance to sit back and relax.

President for the evening was Bernice Peach and her secretary was Julia Tremlett.

Bernice introduced the speaker for the evening, Dr Alan Richards, who spoke on The History of Water Closets in Worcestershire,

His talk, illustrated with slides, began by describing the Romans' achievements at building communal toilets with running water but it was another sixteen to seventeen hundred years before the flushing toilet returned to Britain - and even today, 95 per cent of the world's population does not have access to a flushing toilet.

Dr Richards had slides of a variety of water closets used around the county until recently and he spoke of the outbreaks of cholera in Bromsgrove which we now know was caused by people getting their drinking water from the same stream that they used for effluence.

Items were read from the County Newsletter and arrangements for the Primrose Hospice choir concert were finalised -only a few tickets are left.

Members' names to go to the group meeting were drawn out of a hat and Wythall are hosting the group quiz in May.
