IN November, you published a letter (under the title of: wartime memory) and a week later carried a story, German bomber did fly over town.
The coverage prompted seven letters and three telephone calls. You may be interested to know what Mr Leach and I have discovered.
I did some research and discovered that on Wednesday November 13, 1940, the Austin factory at Longbridge was bombed and three were killed and three were injured.
At Hunnington, near Frankley, 11 high-explosive bombs were dropped at 4.25pm.
I then went to Bromsgrove Library and inspected the microfilm copies of The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Weekly Messenger.
In the issue of Saturday November 16, 1940, and in a column headed Air Raids, I found a separate story titled: Wednesday, dog fight over Midlands market town.
This did not name the town (wartime censorship) but it clearly was Bromsgrove and the 'damaged business premises' must have been Austin's.
Mr Leach wrote to advise me that his research has revealed a detailed account of this 'dog fight.'
He is now attempting to find out more information about the three Hurricane pilots who were involved and, if possible, the German crew.
