STUDLEY manager Mark Chambers was hoping to tie up two new signings this week as transfer deadline day loomed.

Alvechurch midfielder Dean Meyrick, who started the season at the Beehive has been approached along with long-term target Simon Brain, from Pershore.

Meyrick joined the Churchmen earlier in the season because he could not be guaranteed first team football with BKL.

But with Andy Grubb feeling the after-effects of an ankle ligament injury and Brian Powell suffering hamstring problems, Chambers wants to boost his strike force for the title run-in and hopes to lure Meyrick back.

"Dean felt he needed to move on because there were four other strikers on the books," said the BKL boss.

"But he has hit form with Alvechurch so we would like to have him back.

"He seems happy at Alvechurch so it's a bit of a shot in the dark."

Chambers is more confident of recruiting Pershore midfielder Brain who he played with and managed at Evesham United.

Evesham-based Brain trained with Studley in pre-season but opted for a move nearer home to Pershore.

But he is unhappy after being played out of position at the third placed side and Chambers is confident of winning his signature.

The Bees boss wants to recruit another midfielder after James Cope joined Dr Martens Western side Sutton.

Studley's impressive triple charge for honours continued with two Smedley Crooke Cup wins to earn a semi final spot.

Division Two side County Sports were beaten 2-1 before Banks's One South visitors Ledbury Town were thrashed 5-1 in the quarter final on Saturday.

Midfielder Steve Duncan and defender Simon Redhead returned to action leaving Grubb the only doubt for the league visit of Northfield Town last night (Tuesday). But the match was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

Grubb had 20 minutes against County Sports but suffered a reaction and was rested at the weekend.

Keeper Keith Beasley was set to return after midfielder Trevor Whittington deputised with Duncan Turk and Simon Print unavailable.

The Meir KA game on Saturday has been postponed because of Meir's cup commitments but the Bees entertain Kidderminster Harriers Reserves in the Worcestershire Senior Urn semi final next Wednesday (ko 7.45pm).
