THE foot and mouth crisis meant another weekend without racing for Bromsgrove Olympique Cycling Club..

There were plenty of takers for the Sunday club run however, and around 20 riders set out for Bewdley, Stourport and Holt Fleet, meeting similar large groups on the way, many of whom would normally have been competing around the country.

Other victims of the epidemic have firstly been Olympique's new bike trailer which is stored on farm premises and cannot be moved until further notice. Secondly, Olympique's National Veterans Series road race on a course near Alcester looks likely to be postponed in line with guidelines from British Cycling Federation -- a final decision will be made this week.

On a brighter note, racing has been confirmed at Wolverhampton West Park on Saturday for Under-18s in full time education, with quite a few Olympique riders fitting this description.

Olympique's submission to the BCF for the 'Volunteers in Cycling' scheme has been awarded a good practice title and a £50 grant, which will be presented shortly.

Olympique is one of only a handful of clubs nationally who will receive this status, which is further recognition of the club's determination to promote cycling as an enjoyable and rewarding sport for all ages and abilities.
