BROMSGROVE Swimming Club had to watch the Harris Brushes Trophy leave for the second consecutive year last week, despite enjoying some spirited performances on the night.

Wyre Forest eventually won the trophy provided by the club's main sponsors.

Bromsgrove claimed a first place in the very first event when Alice Woodyatt, Rebecca Mullett, Daniel May and Ryan Cooper won the ten years mixed relay and Ryan won again in the individual two length event.

Adrian Rose won the 14 years backstroke, swimming up a year, in a personal best time of 35.26, before team mate Joe Hobbis, also 13, won the two lengths freestyle in 30.35, also for the 14 year old group.

Loren Harrison won breaststroke for the 12 year old girls in 43.36 before Alice Woodyatt won again, this time in the 10 years butterfly in just over 48 seconds.

Loren's sister, Lisa, chalked up her customary breaststroke win in 36.9 and then James Alton got maximum points, winning the 16 years freestyle event.

Kayleigh Wagg then did the same for the girls in the same age group in breaststroke, and then Richard Skidmore got home first for the boys.

Bromsgrove rounded off with another win in the final event to a crescendo of noise in the ten length freestyle cannon, with previous winners May, Cooper, Loren Harrison, Hobbis, Rose and James Alton joining sister Olivia Alton, Laura Ashford, Adrian Smith and Steve Summers in a superb finale.

Local firm Harris Brushes are continuing their sponsorship of the club for the third consecutive year.

Marketing director Gary Jordan said: "It's great to be associated with the towns local youngsters and we look forward to the possibility of our trophy going to the home club next year".
