ST Bede's Catholic Middle School is set to secure itself extra cash after registering with an internet fund-raising company.

By logging on to www.schoolboost.com, internet surfers can buy goods and access services produced by more than 130 companies with the click of a mouse.

The online retailers will donate a percentage of their profits to the school with each transaction, ranging from one to 20 per cent, depending on the type of product or service, and the Lakeside school will receive the benefits at the end of each term.

Chairman of St Bede's PFTA Kate Durkan said: "By raising awareness of the scheme, more people will hopefully log onto www.schoolboost.com and as an added bonus, it will boost our fund-raising efforts."

Goods and services on offer include books, CDs, videos, software, gifts and flowers from well-known companies, such as Waterstones, Amazon and Thorntons.

There are also home and garden, health and travel sections and an education resources zone, including Ask Jeeves, Schoolsnet and Britannica.

Adrian Percival, managing director of schoolboost.com said: "Anyone can access the website and register - it will not cost anything either to the shopper or the school.

"The user selects or registers the school of their choice and a percentage of anything they subsequently purchase via the chosen retailer's website will be donated to that school.

"The amount varies between companies but will be stated on the directory so the customer knows exactly how much will go to their registered school.

"To ensure the school receives the stated benefits, the customer simply forwards their electronic till receipt to schoolboost.com."
