SPA shoppers are being urged to think about what fills their trolley next time they do their weekly shop.

Wychavon District Council is encouraging folk to support local farmers by buying goods from town markets and choosing home-grown products.

But the authority also wants residents to support people living in impoverished continents by buying fairtrade goods.

A council spokeswoman said: "Shoppers may want to look out for the Fairtrade Mark as this guarantees a better deal for workers in the Third World.

"It's a small change in the way we do our shopping, but will mean major improvements for many of the workers and their families."

The call coincides with National Fairtrade Fortnight, whi-ch began on Monday March 5.
