SPA traders are being asked to stump up cash and help make the town twinkle at Christmas.

Droitwich Spa Christmas Illuminations Working Group has sent letters to traders asking for a contribution towards the festive lights.

By modifying power sources, members believe they can cut costs by £1,000 and the savings could then be used to improve lighting stock.

Trades are being asked to contribute £25 -- or whatever they can afford -- towards the improvements.

Wychavon District Council's town centres officer and working group secretary, Lew Hammond, said: "Money is needed now -- we must plan ahead.

"Good Christmas lights make people happy and are good for business.

"Your support will be most appreciated and publicly acknowledged."
