A GROUP of committed people who want to rejuvenate a run-down part of the Westlands estate have reported an "encouraging" response from residents.

Westlands Community Association wants to knock down Westlands Community Hall, off Farmers Way, and build a new venue.

Nearly 30 residents attended an extraordinary general meeting on February 6 to hear about exciting plans which include a main hall, mother and baby room and small room for counselling sessions.

The group has not yet had a quote for the cost of the project.

Cash will be raised through community fundraising and grants.

Association treasurer Rosanna Blewett told the Advertiser a number of people approached her after the meeting and volunteered to plan fundraising activities.

One person volunteered to join the committee.

Rosanna said: "We had a very encouraging response from people at the meeting.

"It was great to see representatives from the Spa Housing Association, Droitwich Spa Town Council, Droitwich police and Droitwich Methodist Church.

"Those who had experience in this type of project gave us some valuable tips and suggestions."

She added: "The plans are not final, so if people do have any ideas they will be welcomed.

"I think people are excited about the future of the hall and aware of the challenges we face."

The next meeting is on Wednesday March 28, at Westlands' Community Hall, at 7.30pm.
