THIS was played in atrocious conditions and the match was called to a halt after an hour with Rovers in the lead.

Bromsgrove played some excellent football and pressed from the start against their Banks's Brewery West Midlands League hosts.

The visitors were unlucky not to open the scoring in the ninth minute when an excellent cross from Richard Burgess was headed just over the crossbar by Dean Wright.

It was no surprise when following further pressure Bromsgrove took the lead in the 19th minute.

A partially cleared corner fell to Wright whose shot flew into the net via the upright.

In the 27th minute another superb run by the lively Burgess saw him lay the ball to Tim Nicholls whose drive flew just past the far post.

Bromyard replied immediately and levelled the scores in the 28th minute when they broke clear after blocking a free kick. The ball skidded through a stretched Rovers' defence for Andy James to fire home.

Lee Hughes hit the crossbar in the 38th minute but Burgess failed to make a clear connection when the ball fell to him at the far post, and he screwed his effort wide.

Shortly after, however, Hughes centred with a pinpoint cross and Burgess turned the ball past Mark Hopkins in the Town goal.

Right on the stroke of half time, Luke Johnston was unlucky not to pull Bromyard level when he shot narrowly past the upright.

The second half saw Jimmy McGettrick take over in goal for Rovers when Elliott Morris was injured.

In the 56th minute Wright extended Rovers' lead when he latched onto a fine through ball from Luke Yates.

With 30 minutes remaining the referee decided to abandon the game as the rain failed to cease and the conditions were worsening.

Rovers: Morris, Bayliss, Hughes, S Frost, Townsend, Ulfig, Nicholls, Yates, Burgess, D Wright, Beckett. Subs: Banner (used), Ashford, Turpin, M Wright, McGettrick (used).
