A TAILOR-made action plan to rid the town of litter has been launched by Redditch Counci, writes Becky Procterl.

The move comes after the council created a new system called "area working" aimed at providing services at a smaller local level.

And it comes alongside a massive £1.5 million landscaping project to fell thousands of Redditch trees.

Consultation with residents over which trees are to face the axe takes place in May.

Area manager for environmental services Guy Revans said: "Each of the five areas have had their own plan drawn up. We have looked at the number of complaints about litter so we have known where to concentrate.

"The plans have been tailor-made to meet the requirement of each area and we will review the project in six months' time."

Mr Revans said resources were limited but the council wanted to ensure the best service was delivered.

The council has also created the post of a landscape and countryside manager who will be responsible for developing plans and strategies across Redditch.

Mr Revans said: "Nat Healey will be responsible for improving the landscape and working with area teams to develop management plans on a day-to-day basis.

"He will deal with complaints and problem solving."
