I WRITE with reference to the letter "Ballot waste of our Money" (Advertiser, March 7).
Concerns were expressed about the recent community consultation that Redditch Borough Council has undertaken to help councillors choose one of four options for a new democratic structure which will change the way decisions are taken at the town hall.
This change and consultation is something we have to do.
We are required under the Local Government Act 2000 to consult with the public and interested groups on the choice of a political management structure before May 2001.
There is no Government money for this and we are having to bear the cost.
We are, however, undertaking a joint consultation with Worcestershire County Council to provide people with all necessary information they need.
This will not result in changes to the existing election process - residents will still vote for their preferred councillor and political party.
However, the options all aim significantly to increase councillor accountability, with scrutiny panels overseeing all decisions taken.
If anyone would like to find out more about the change process we are going through at Redditch Town Hall, or would like details of the four new democratic options on the table, they are welcome to call our hotline on 598090.
