IN Division One of the Bromsgrove and Redditch League the two top teams both had easy 10-0 victories.

League leaders Newton Works A beat SPSP, and second in the league Lickey Monarchs did the same to Barnt Green A.

Newton Works B, at home to Himbleton A, could only manage two players but still managed a good 5-5 draw. Newton captain Gary Jackson was in great form, winning all his three games, and was well supported by team mate Alan Hall, who won two. Adam Throssell won the only singles for Himbleton which meant the score stood at 5-4 for Newton with the doubles to play. But Adam teamed up with Trevor Simmons for a 21-16, 22-20 win for Himbleton.

Another close game was between Astwood Bank, at home to Droitwich A. For the Bank, Jim Conner and Ken Southwell both won two each, with Pete Kelly getting the other. For Droitwich, Gordon Nicklin and Tony Birch both had two good wins, which meant Droitwich had to win the doubles to get a draw. But Jim and Ken won it for the Bank, beating Tony and Gordon 21-17, 18-21, 21-14.

In the one remaining handicap cup game played last week, Studley Road Nomads beat Hillcrest B by 22 points.

In Division Two, Studley Road Terriers went down 7-3 at home to Hillcrest B. Anita Bennett and Graeme Farrall starred for Hillcrest, both winning three games. Graeme teamed up with Margaret Buxton to win the doubles for their seven wins. For Studley Road, John Dignum, Peter Hartles and Steve Demercado all won one each.

Barnt Green Hornets also lost 7-3 at home to Barnt Green Tennis B. Steve Hore and Jason McFall were unbeaten for the tennis club and also won the doubles. For the Hornets, Ian Anderson, Paul Grigg and Chris Garner each got one win.

In the third 7-3 win of the week, Lickey Panthers beat Droitwich B. Geoff Unitt, John Dale and David Appleton all won two games for the Panthers, plus the doubles. John Perrott was man of the match, winning his three games for Droitwich.

Studley Road Nomads were without their captain Bernard Leech but were still too strong for Newton Works C, winning 9-1. Gary Steele (three), Jeff Lines (three) and Ian Cairns (two) were the winners for Studley Road, Gary and Ian also won the doubles.

Brian Askey was Newton's only winner when he beat Ian 21-16, 21-18.
