THE socialist system is not enhanced by Mr Spiteri saying we were glad of Russia's help during the war. They did not enter the war to help others.

Russia had a pact with Hitler to guarantee Germany's back door while the Germans attacked the West and made an agreement with Germany to carve up Poland between themselves.

Stalin's partner-in-crime later turned on him, giving Stalin no other option.

The Allies lost a colossal number of ships and sailors, both merchant and Royal Navy, while taking tanks, guns and other much-needed equipment to Northern Russia, running the gauntlet of capital ships, torpedo bombers from Norway and U boats from Bear Island. The Russians would not leave harbour to escort our ships if the weather was rough.

Those operations and the RAF bombing of German airfields greatly helped the Russians to hold out at Leningrad and the North.

However, is not this attitude typical of our own socialist-inspired disregard for British achievements together with our own Government's idea that our history only started four years ago?
