WORCESTER Rugby Club coach Adrian Skeggs has given Tony Yapp a massive boost by declaring: "You're good enough to be my main man".

The former England A man was given the nod for his first National One start in Worcester's 27-16 win over Coventry on Saturday and gave such a mature display that he now could stay in the side.

Yapp has struggled to displace Earl Va'a from the coveted number 10 shirt but, after the Sam-oan suffered an Achilles injury, he shone against the East Midlanders.

Worcester face a tough trip to Skeggs' old club Bedford on Saturday with Yapp sitting in pole position for the fly-half spot.

Skeggs said: "You are only as good as your last game and I think Tony did very well against Coventry - it was a mature display from him.

"My words of wisdom for him this season have been take an opportunity, live an opportunity and see what you can get from it.

"A lot of people look at opportunities but they do not see the horizons behind them.

"With Yappy he had played exceptionally well in the last two Warriors games and then when he got his chance, he played well against Coventry."

And the former Australian international will have no qualms about putting the 23-year-old in for the massive title showdown at Leeds Tykes on April 1.

"I would pick him if he is in the right frame of mind and if I feel he would do a good job for the team - there is no doubt about it.

"What he does is he lets the ball do the work and also his kicking is also very good.

"He needs to prove, not just in the matches but also in training, that he is hungry enough and consistent enough to keep his place."
