A WORCESTER charity has achieved its target of transforming a derelict building in the heart of the city into a state-of-the-art premises for the blind.
A million pounds was raised to give the former GPO sorting office in Sansome Walk a facelift and, this week, it opened its doors.
"It's a wonderful venue," said Brenda Wornham, the centre's manager. "It is early days, but we have received very positive feedback."
Before the opening of the building, the Worcestershire Association for the Blind's headquarters were in a first floor flat in Wyld's Lane.
"We just did not have the room, but these new premises have a woodwork room, craft room, coffee lounge and lots of other facilities," she added.
The money was raised through fundraising and Lottery cash.
"We are very pleased that we now have these facilities for people to get the advice and help they need," Mrs Wornham added.
